Since December 1966, the good folk of Gavle in Sweden have always installed a giant straw goat in its town centre, every Christmas without fail.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gävle_goat (scroll down to "Timeline")

And nearly every Christmas, it got burnt down! 🔥🔥 Last year was an exception, it got pecked and eaten to death by greedy crows and jackdaws.

It's quite easy to see why in the "natal" chart, Sun/Venus Sagittarius trine it's ruler Jupiter Leo, so an easy flow of Fire energies (quite actual sometimes!)

Also note the Mars in Virgo (literally ruling wheat, therefore straw) conjunct Uranus and Pluto, so a risk of an accidental (Uranus) destruction (Pluto) by heat (Mars).

Do you think this year might be another fiery demise? Or could it be saved?

We have Mars stationing retrograde conjunct Jupiter, there may be a few attempts, maybe the first try might not work, but the would-be arsonists may change strategy as Mars goes retrograde.

Edit to add: the Sagittarius new moon is conjunct the Sun, and is receiving a trine from a stationing Mars Leo. Oh dear.

Mars is in the 3rd, so the arsonists may be local, and would know the area well. It has been set fire in the past by tourists from overseas having "a laugh" or for a dare (followed by a short prison sentence + hefty fine!)

Notably, transit Saturn in Water sign Pisces, is square Sun/Venus, so maybe a barrier or means of prevention. If it does catch fire, it might still be salvaged.

Or maybe the goat may be too damp to combust?

Feel free to post your guesses. Fire this year, or no? 😃

Chart with transits + Vesta added (the eternal flame!)

Thought I'd look at previous dates of the demise of the Goat and compare it with previous Mars Retrogrades at the time 😮

Years:

1975
- Mars Rx Cancer/Gemini - collapsed under its own weight.

1977 - Mars Rx Leo/Cancer - caught fire, cause unknown.

1990 - Mars Rx Gemini/Taurus - survived.

1992 - Mars Rx Cancer - burned down twice, by the same person!

2005 - Mars Rx Taurus - burned down by "Santa" and "Gingerbread men".

2007 - Mars Rx Cancer/Gemini - survived.

2009 - Mars Rx Leo - after two attempts by two separate people, it burned down.

2022 - Mars Rx Gemini - survived.

2024 - Mars Rx Leo/Cancer - not looking promising!

Rather interesting pattern, and oddly enough it proves the planets and essential dignities!

Mars is in fall in Cancer, and is in detriment in Taurus, so fires really are a bigger risk 😮

Mars is in "domicile" by triplicity in Leo, a fire sign, so again, another fire risk.

Mars Gemini seems to be rather effective at fires not occurring, despite (or because of) no real essential dignity.

Rather fascinating!

The Wikipedia article refers to two goats, are there still two, I wonder? The American tourist who burnt down the goat in 2001 thought that he was "taking part in a completely legal goat burning tradition"

Interesting that the chart has a grand trine in water and a water Asc 🤔

It seems to me that it cannot be the same goat, subsequent ones are sort of reincarnated goats. Do you think that this could make a difference? ;)

At least they don't put people in it before setting it on fire. (see The Wicker Man)

This will sound crass and commercial, but if word of this becomes worldwide it could turn into an annual event on the level of the Burning Man festival in the American Southwest.

Interesting in the current incarnation, Jupiter (to grow big) is in trine with Vesta (the Flame).

There seems to be two straw goats, one is the main feature, and the other a smaller one. It's the main one that is a target.

I would love to visit there one Christmas, as a bucket list item, but I imagine you would have to book well in advance, it is gaining traction worldwide. It makes the news here in the UK when it does burn down!

The inauguration was today!

So far, it's still standing loud and proud 🙂 and not aflame either! Let's see what happens this month, especially around the time Mars stations retrograde.
