What's your theory for why astrology works?

Reading Howard Sasportas - the 12 Houses, I realised his idea of astrology differs to mine. He says that if we have say mars in the 4th house, we will see mars in the 4th house more than other things.."what you see is what you get".

I feel very strongly that our personalities are largely a result of our experiences growing up- how we were encourage to express ourselves. I've been amazed at how bang on astrology has been about my formative experiences...and I realise that we do create our past in our present, what we see is what we get...

but when you're a child ,you're open, you've no preconceived ideas as a baby


I've got the sense that Liz Green and Jung and Howard S. think that there is say a Gemini energy from birth, so that the child will become manifest Gemini whatever situation they are in.

I believe this is true, but that it's more the case that because your sun is in Gemini, early life will shape you to become a Gemini.

And this link between the uncontrollable circumstances in your life and your birth chart - the idea that your parents were chosen to fit your birth chart - makes me think there's a much greater purpose and order in life that I thought..! Makes me feel much more open to spirituality....this is why I love astrology.

I totally agree. We come in to this incarnation for many reasons. Karmic debt and credit. The family group we choose to work out issues etc. We may be in different roles and sexes over the eons.
I do believe we choose even our time of birth.....It does give a sense of purpose and to know these things. Astrology allows this.
Even the most knowledgeable of astrologers may differ in their opinions and I dont always agree with them either. We come to our understandings in our own way and in our unique style.

Why astrology works I dont know....it is a great life mystery and I kind of like it that way......

As far as I am concerned, it shouldn't work, but nevertheless it does. Having a scientific education (physics, math), my head tells me it shouldn't work.

However, the proof is in the doing, and I am constantly astounded by the correct blueprint of the person which results from a natal horoscope.

I was a skeptic, and, many years ago was challenged by a friend, who was working on a horoscope, to look into it myself. Which I did, and resulted in a long escursion (about 100 books) and several hundred horoscopes.

I believe now that, somehow, the seed of the character is defined at the moment of birth, and the subsequent personal experiences have their influence on the development of the character, but you still recognize the type of seed, which leaves its stamp.

I believe in the power of choice. Otherwise I'd fall into being the victim. For me it's important to know that my soul (me) chose this life, chose my parents, chose with what traits, experiences, wounds etc I want to deal with and grow in this life by coming in on a certain vibration. By vibration, I mean the influences and positions of the stars at my birth here on earth.

That is why Astrology works for me in the present moment. It helps me understand myself better and learn to take responsibility for myself. I can't blame anyone for the lousy life I've had.

Its the study of planets and moons and how theyre transits and others
affect you on a daily basis so we can know in advance what lies ahead
I chose to detach from the past, live in the present and believe in the future, but astrololgy is only one way of finding out who we are or geting a glimpse into what will happen, I chose this life the outcome, as a Leo being Spiritualy Awakened has nothing to do with Astrology or my religious beliefs it is merely the fact that we are open to it isnt it? consciously awake, we are open to the spiritual side of life or the study of it. It has no right or wrong I believe. It isnt a science or factual, It is what could be,an opportunity the good news, the shove in the right direction and you must take the good with the bad like anything. We all love a good prediction

Seriously, the birth chart is the 'map' or 'schematic' of the human psyche. It tells us how we will experience our lives.
NOT what will happen but HOW we will experience our lives.
It works because that is the way it was ,meant to be.

On the first page of the bible, we are told, "god made the lights for SIGNS and for seasons", etc.
it's just the way it is.
In the past 5 or 6 thousand years astrologers have been 'looking up' and studying how it works. They discussed it and when they developed writing they wrote about it and we are the beneficiaries of 6,000 years of astrological research.

Life is energy. Planetary and zodiacal influences are qualified living energies that provide a house (personality) for our soul that gives structure and impulse to our existence. Without the 7 Spirits (Planets) before the Throne there would be no forward movement, no evolution. Life would be a blank white slate with no color without the impulses provided by astrological forces, which are the conditioning radiating forces of more highly evolved beings. These forces affect us unconsciously. They are the basis of our thoughts and feelings. Our thoughts and feelings then radiate outwardly and become the substance of our experience coming at us through other people. This chain of events is what makes astrological prediction possible. Once a person starts to view his body, thoughts, and feelings as objective to his true Self and something to be used, prediction becomes much more difficult because every thought or feeling is not followed blindly.
