though,in general the house influence and the ascendant dominate the fate and fortune of the man ,there are exceptions like those of advanced and refined persons.in some cases,mars in first house will give result more like mars in aries or mars in aries will work more like mars in ascendant.
in general,house influence dominate the sign influence.the signs,by itself are not always expressed.houses corresspond to the respective signs.

in signs,there are the CARDINAL,THE FIXED AND THE MUTABLE signs.

CARDINAL SIGNS AND ANGULAR HOUSES.

cardinals and angles correspond to each other.they both stand for motion ,action and change.the angles give activity in the physical and material level of life.cardinals ,by itself show the inner urge and energy for change and action.the cardinal signs activate anypart of the life where it falls.so cardinal signs activate the house it falls in.but the best expression of the cardinal signs will be through the angles(1 ,4 ,7, 10'TH),AS ANGLES CORRESPOND WITH THEM and both give action .
fixed signs in angles give less changeable nature and practical nature .
cardinals in succedents and cadents,activate the emotional and intellectual faculties respectively.as succedents stand for desire ,passions and emotions AND cadents for deeper thought.

FIXED SIGNS AND SUCCEDENT HOUSES.

fixed and succedents correspond to each other .they stand for passion,desires,emotions and are rather stable and fixed ,inspite of the energy.these are strong but are fixed.so fixed signs work best in succedents,in which there is best expression of the fixed energies.in other house of angles and cadents,they are moulded into different mould of action or thought.fixed sign in angle gives fixed and less changeable nature,gives set traits ,habits and behaviour.stability or lack of need for change in home ,marriage or carrer.ambition to rise in whatever field one is.
succedents(2,5,8,11th ) deal with passion,desires , fellings and emotions and comes between thought process(signified by cadents) and actions(angles).here thoughts are churned into emotions and feelings of intensity,which then ultimately leads to action as symbolised by the angles.

MUTABLE SIGNS AND CADENT HOUSES.

mutable signs and cadent houses corresspond to each other .and stand for intellect and thought process.planets in cadent houses activate this section strongly..
cadent house work on a depper level.it relates to intellect and the shallow and deeper thought process.it deals with the concious and the subconcious aspects aswell.its effect are internal and may not be as visible externally as the angles or even the succedents.

cardinal,fixed and mutable signs correspond with angles ,succedents and cadent house respectively.here again,it is the angles,the succedents and the cadent houses which dominate the physical and material aspects of man.
among them,THE ANGLES ARE EXPRESSED IN THE STRONGEST WAY.so planets in the angles and the signs involved are sure to be expressed in the life of the native.especially the ascendant,7'th and the 10'th house.4 'th is much weaker.so planets in 1,7 and 10'th have positional strength,even if weak by sign.
angles are followed by succedents and then the cadents.cadents being the least expressed externally.
NOTE:it has been seen in practice that 9'th,11'th and even 5'th house are more significant than the 4'th house.

INTERPRETATIONS OF HOUSE POSITIONS OF PLANETS.

FIRST WE HAVE to decide the house positions of planets and other bodies.in which house each planet is placed ,has to be decided first.this can be difficult in case of planets near cusp and cuspal margins.this problem has been dealt with in an earlier post in this thread.
now that we have decided the house positions of planets,we move on to the next phase of interpretations,which is much more complex than what it seems at first.

interpretations of house positions of planets,as given in astro books and material are general interpretations AND ARE NOT CHART SPECIFIC.AND SO SHOULD NOT BE APPLIED BY THE STUDENT ,AS THEY ARE.these interpretations are the general influences which are seen.BUT THEY DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT,FIRSTLY-THE SIGN POSITION OF THE PLANET,
SECONDLY-THE ASPECTS RECIEVED BY THE PLANET,
AND THIRDLY-THE RULERSHIP OF THE PLANET.

SIGN POSITION.

general interpretations of house positions,do not take into account the sign position of the planet.
planetary energy does not work alone.planetary energies are always coloured and modified by the energies of the sign in which the planet is posited.
so ,to arrive at more the accurate influence of the planet,not only the planet's energy but also that of the sign in which it is placed,have to be taken into account.the combining and moulding of the planetary and the sign energies is a must.

ASPECTS.

after arriving at the combined influence of the planet and the sign,we have to modify this combined influence, with the influences of the aspects recieved by the planet.
so,the planetary and the sign influence ,combined, is not enough and this has to be modified by the aspects recieved by the planet.
aspects and their interpretations must be done carefully.this has neen dealt with ,in detail in an earlier post.

so ,now we see that,we need to mould the planetary and the sign influence, ,to arrive at how the planet expresses itself in that sign and then we have to modify this result,with the aspects recieved by the planet and arrive at the real influence of the planet when it is in that sign and recieving those aspects.it is this real influence which is to be applied to the house in which the planet falls ,in the natal chart.

RULERSHIP OF THE PLANET.

after arriving at the net influence of the planet,sign and aspects,we have also to consider,what the planet signifies ,with respect to the chart,with respect to the ascendant.
we have to consider the rulership of the planet ,with respect to the ascendant.we have to consider which house or houses the planet rules.wether 1'st,5'th or 10'th.....etc.
it is the ascendant which determines the ruler ship of the planets.
a scorpio ascendant,has mars as the 1'st and 6'th house ruler.(not always)
cancer asc has mars as the 5'th and 10'th ruler.(not always)
in both cases above,the same planet mars relates to different areas of life.
when a planet is placed in a house,it brings with it the significance of the houses ruled by it in the nativity.thus forming a link between the house the planet is posited and the houses ruled by that planet.
so ,for scorpio,mars has significance in matters related to 1'st and 6'th houses like self,physical body,work atmosphere,diseases,inferiors and enemies(1'st and 6'th house matters). and the house where mars is placed ,gets linked with these matters of the 1'st and 6'th house.so matters of the house of placement gets related to the matters signified by the house of the planet's rulership .
rulership has to be considered before giving the final interpretations .different rulership of the same planet will change the way the planet works out in the native's life.house of placement is influenced by the matters signified by the house of rulership ,of the planet.

NOTE-care should be taken to ascertain the rulerships.mars may not always be the 5'th or 10'th lord for a cancer ascendant.so the sign positions of the cusps of the houses has to be ascertained accurately,before determining the planetary rulerships of the houses.

CONSIDERATIOS FOR INTERPRETATION OF PLANET POSITION IN A HOUSE:-

1)the nature and characteristics of the planet has to be considered.

2)the nature of the sign in which the planet is placed has to be considered.

3)the energy of the planet and that of the sign has to be moulded and synthesised ,to arrive at the planet's influence in that sign.

4)the influences of all the aspects recieved by the planet from different parts of the chart have to be considered.the 'planet in sign influence' has to be modified with the aspect influences and synthesised to arrive at the true real influence of the planet when it is in that sign and recieving those aspects.
this real influence is expressed in the house in which the planet is placed and it influences the matters signified by that house.

5)the nature and significance of the house in which the planet is placed has to be considered.different houses signify different areas of life.the planet placed in a house, influences those matters and areas of the native's life , which are signified by that house.
so understanding the significance of the house and the matters related to it is a must.

6)consider the natal houses ruled by the planet. a planet may be the ruler of certain house or houses,in the chart.when this planet is placed in a house,it brings to this house,the influences of the houses which are ruled by the planet.the matters of the house in which this planet is placed,are influenced by the matters of the houses which are ruled by the planet.

HOUSE AND IT'S RULER.


the matters related to a house ,are primarily influenced by the planet or planets which are deposited in that house.such planet or planets have a major say in how the matters of the house are experienced by the native.
but their influence is not the only ones which affect the house.there are secondory set of influences,which are those of the planet which rules the house or to be accurate -the planet which rules the sign which falls on the cusp of the house.
this ruler of the house has to be considered ,even though it's influence is secondary to those of the planets deposited in the sign.and when there are no planets in the house ,THEN THE INFLUENCE OF THIS RULER BECOMES MOST IMPORTANT in studying the matters related to the house.
the position and strength of the ruler, affects the house it rules ,even when the ruler is placed in other house.
if the ruler is strong and well placed,it is benefic for the house it rules and the matters of this house . and the vice versa.
the house in which the ruler is placed has to be considered.the influence of this house gets related to the house which the ruler rules.so a house is related to the house in which its ruler is placed.
when the ruler is placed in the house itself ,its influence is very strong.
aspects recieved by the ruler have also some bearing on the matters of the house.
though the influence of the ruler is secondary to that of the planets posited in the house,it should not be ignored as it has some effect.and when there are no planets in the house,then the ruler becomes most important.

so,while studying the matters related to a house,there are lot of things to be taken into account.they are- the planets posited in the house,their signs ,the aspects they recieve,the houses ruled by them,the ruler of the house itself,the ruler's position and strength,the aspects recieved by the ruler,the house in which the ruler is posited...so there are many factors which have to be considered while interpreting the results signified by a house.it IS MUCH MUCH MORE THAN THE INTERPRETATIONS OF HOUSE POSITIONS OF PLANETS ,AS GIVEN IN ASTROLOGY BOOKS AND MATERIAL.BOTH THE STUDENT AND THE ASTROLOGER HAS TO DO A LOT OF WORK ON HIS OWN TO GET REASONABLE RESULTS AND MUCH DEPENDS ON HIS SKILLS AND PATIENCE.

HOUSE ,IT'S CUSPAL SIGN AND OTHER SIGNS IN THE HOUSE.

the cuspal sign of the house(the sign in which the cusp of the house falls) ,is of the most importance ,in the matters of the house,as compared to other sign or sign which fall in the same house.the cuspal sign influences the house the most and it colours the affairs of the house.even when the cuspal sign occupies only a minor part of the house,compared to other sign or signs which occupy the major portion of the house,IT IS THE CUSPAL SIGN WHICH EXERTS THE MAXIMUM INFLUENCE ON THE HOUSE.THE CUSPAL SIGN AND ITS RULER ARE IMPORTANT.
BUT THE ABOVE RULE,HOLDS TRUE ALWAYS ONLY WHEN THERE ARE NO PLANETS IN THE HOUSE.
when there are planets in the house and that also in a sign other than the cuspal sign,it is always the planetary influence combined with the influence of the sign in which the planet is located ,which DOMINATES THE MATTERS OF THE HOUSE.here we have to keep in mind that the influence of signs by themself are rather subtle .planetary energies working through a sign are much sure of expression.so ,when a planet is in a house and in a sign other than the cuspal sign,IT IS THE INFLUENCE OF THE PLANET IN THE SIGN,THAT DOMINATES THE MATTERS OF THE HOUSE.the sign occupied by the planet becomes important.

but when the house is not occupied by any planet ,the cuspal sign and its ruler have the major say in the matters of the house.
but when there are planets in the house,the planetary influence is supreme.the cuspal sign and the ruler become secondary influences.

TWO OR MORE PLANETS IN A HOUSE.

when there are two or more planets in a house,the planet which is the strongest by sign or by position,exerts the strongest influence ,in the house.the planet may be in own sign or in the sign of exaltation or in a friendly sign and so is strong by sign position.a planet nearer to the cusp of the house exerets more influence and when on the cusp or very near to it,then the planet has positional dignity in the house and hence its influence becomes very strong in the house.
so planets which are stronger by sign or by relative position to cusp,exert a stronger influence in the house.

a planet in exaltation sign or in own sign,may be away from the cusp and yet exert a strong influence in the house.
and a planet may be weak by sign position and yet it will exert a strong influence in the house, by being placed on the cusp or very near to the cusp.

so ,the student has to judge the relative importance of the planets placed inside a house ,taking into account their sign strength and their positional strength(distance from the cusp).he must find which planet influences the house the maximum and which the minimum,and those in between.

when analysing the affairs of a house,we have to study the significance of the house and its role in the life of the native,we have to consider the planets in the house,their natal ruler ship,their natural rulership,their position and strength,we have to consider the aspects these planets recieve from other planets,we have to consider the nature of the aspecting planet,their natal and natural rulerships,their position and strength and their house positions ,we have to consider the type of the aspect and its effect,we have to consider the sign in which the planet is and the lord of the sign and its position,we have to consider the sign of the cusp of the house and the ruler of this sign(the house ruler) and the position of the ruler-its strength and weakness.....
by the time we consider all this ,we realise that ,NO PART OF THE CHART IS INDEPENDENT.no house is independent.but somehow they are related to each other and influence each other.home may influence career,career may influence marriage or the vice versa.SO IT IS A MUST THAT WE SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE-THE CHART AS A WHOLE.PLANETS ,SIGNS AND ASPECTS ARE ONLY ENERGIES AND HOW THESE ENERGIES WORK OUT,IN WHAT AREAS OF THE NATIVES LIFE AND WHAT FACTORS THEY SIGNIFY IN THE LIFE OF THE MAN-IS CHART SPECIFIC.SO A MARS MAY INFLUENCE MARRIAGE IN ONE AND CAREER IN OTHER AND HOME IN OTHER AND IT ACTS NOT ALONE BUT ALONG WITH MANY OTHER INFLUENCES OF THE CHART.

EASY AND HARD CHARTS.

some charts are easy to synthesise and some are very difficult and most charts fall in between these two extremes..
some charts heve concenteration of planetary energies in a few signs or houses and such concenteration clearly shows the parts of the chart that are active and also show clearly the direction in which the planetary energies are working.and so it is easy to focus on these areas.

in other charts the planets may be scattered all arround the chart,with no clear focus of planetary energies and so it becomes complex ,to synthesise the scattered energies

EASY AND HARD CHARTS CONT-

THE signs and the natal houses correspond to each other respectively.but they operate on different planes.the sign energies are subtle and shows the inner man.the house show the external manifestations.so house influences dominate the physical and material life and are clearly expressed,unlike the sign energies.so houses dominate the signs in the material life.
in most cases the signs and houses do not coincide.for eg-the sign ARIES,which is the NATURAL FIRST HOUSE,fall in say-the 3'rd house of the natal chart and the 3'rd house corressponds to GEMINI.so we have to synthesise the 3'rd house influence and the influence of sign aries ,together.here the natural first house-aries ,has to mould its influence into the natal 3'rd house.
in case of libra ascendant and aries 7'th house,the synthesise becomes most complex,here the natural 7'th house-libra, becomes THE NATAL 1'st house and the natural first house aries becomes the NATAL 7'TH HOUSE.....SO THE NATAL HOUSES ARE JUST THE REVERSE OF THE NATURAL HOUSE.
libra ,the natural 7'th house ,is the natural significator of OTHERS.AND WHEN LIBRA is in the 1'st house(natal),the natural OTHERS has to mould itself and express itself in the NATAL 'SELF' signified by the natal first house.
similarily,the natural SELF becomes THE NATAL others .THERE IS COMPLETE REVERSAL OF ROLES.AND SO MOST DIFFICULT TO SYNTHESISE.(IRRESPECTIVE OF OTHER CHART FACTORS )

EASY AND HARD CHARTS CONT-

when signs(the natural houses) and the natal houses coincide-that is ,when aries becomes the ascendant and libra the 7'th house,then the energies of both the natal house and the signs coincide and work together in the same direction.they do not contradict each other or work contrary to each other.
so charts with aries ascendant,becomes the most easy to synthesise and judge,as here the natal houses coincide with the natural houses and both the natal and the natural rulerships of the planets also coincide and are the same.
in this forum,ARIAN MAVRICK'S CHART becomes the easiest to synthesise.she has planetary concenteration in 1 'st and 10'th house,in angles,with only a few planets outside.her natal houses coincide with the natural houses(signs).this makes,her's the easiest chart to synthesise.
