Is North Node really our purpose?

Can we say the North Node is the pathway to unlock our life purpose ? It makes sense, I have no clue about my life purpose but I know how critical it is to follow my North Node.
That seems an excellent and concise way to put it, yes!

I would elaborate on it, but then I'm always verbose (Mercury conjunct my ASC):
Recognizing and working to rectify or repair the most urgent karmic debts of your past (the SN) - the character flaws, the weaknesses, the negative traits (all which you can recognize without past-life memory) will clear away blockage in the path to your NN - which is the better you, the more self-aware you - now freed from "old baggage" - and you can finally see and set out on what your life's greater purpose is.

Dealing with your SN garbage is often a painful ordeal (it has been for me), but it doesn't have to be so hard for everyone. Maybe if I had been more aware of all this very important node dynamic (with my incredible past-life memories) when I was suffering through my greatest SN karmic lessons, I think it might have been so much easier and faster for me to recognize what was happening and to handle it quicker and more effectively. And I would have started on my life's great purpose so much sooner.

Perhaps. But on the other hand, my past-life misdeeds were so egregious, I may have needed these hard lessons so that I will never forget nor commit them again. And from that perspective, it's a good thing that I'm thankful for.

Metaphorically speaking: I failed the previous course inexcusably, and as a result (to redeem my soul) I had to retake the course under great duress (we make our own hell). But I feel I'll pass this time and go on to higher and happier studies, which I won't allow myself to fail again.

What happens if someone has Sun or Moon or both, or their ruler on their South Node. Does this mean they will need to spend their life denying, fighting, working against these influences? Fighting there basic fundamental nature?
I just reread your original post and was stopped in my tracks with this question. I have no answer for this. Not a clue. But I do have some books to find in my library that may help me come up with some feasible answer to this dilemma.

First thought (don't take this as any gospel!) that pops into my mind is this: Would this person be one of those souls who are deliberately stagnating in their past evils? All we have to do to visualize this in action is look at our political cast of players these days. as well as the obscenely wealthy.

We are not required to rectify karmic debts - if a rogue soul decides they like being greedy and cruel and lascivious, they can. But according to reincarnationists, the willfully stagnant soul will eventually weaken their link to the Higher Power to the point that when they die, they will cease to exist.

But I'm only talking off the top of my head. I don't know!I need to look at some charts of famous people, searching for this ominous configuration. May take some time, but it certainly seems worthwhile to find some explanation!

Me too, my Mercury conjunct my ASC, but I'm a bigger picture person. My NN being in 12th , I especially don't like to delve into details and the best answers pop up to me by themselves only when I let go of endless questioning .

You know I've found that lots of people with natal Mercury conjunct the Ascendant (who believe that their natal Mercury is in the 1st House) speak and write more like they had Mercury in the 12th House, and they have the same preference that you have. So I advance their birth time by just a few minutes (anywhere from one to five minutes) and their natal Mercury slips into the 12th House! And usually nothing else in the chart is affected much by this tiny time change. And who's to say the medical assistant who recorded your birth time was a perfectionist about something that is totally insignificant to non-astrological people (Astro-Muggles)? And exactly what part of the birthing ordeal is the actual "time of birth"?

1st House Mercury is a "Chatty Cathy", "Why write just a note when you can type an explanatory pamphlet", "Detail Freak" type. 12th House Mercury is often a "Silent Observer", "Excellent Listener" or "Wait for a Spontaneous Intuition Worth Expressing" type. I think the second fits you! What do you think?

@thelivingsky , I looked in an old astrology book on Nodes, and found only one example of what you're asking here: A person with their natal Moon (21° CAP) conjunct their natal South Node (18°CAP). To my utter surprise it was Christine Jorgenson, the first famous transsexual, who underwent unprecedented, extensive surgery to change from an adult man into a beautiful woman (as anatomically correct a woman as possible). That she was also a Gemini - two people/one sign - adds further to fascination of all this.

Rather than denying, fighting, working against her former incarnation as a woman, was Jorgenson perhaps overwhelmingly compelled to revert to it, with the Moon and SN conjunct? Most reincarnationists (as I obviously am) believe that evolving souls choose to change sex every few lives so as to keep a balance of male and female energies and experiences and not become utterly polarized. Was Jorgenson so overpowered (Moon conjunct South Node) by her former existence as a woman that she knew she would never find inner peace in a male body? Does this explain all the transsexuality today? And does her Cancerian (feminine) NN show that she was moving in the right direction? Was some mistake made coming back as a man?

At this point, I can only ask questions. I have no answers. I have only found this one stunning example of a luminary conjunct the South Node.

As Linda Richman always said on "Coffee Talk": "I'm verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. Here's a topic...discuss!"

I have 12th house Mercury indeed, but on the other hand my mind is overactive, which leads to anxiety. That's why it's crucial for me to let go of anything not needed . Also I don't like gossiping or making fun of someone but I like to have genuine interactions :)
