This is a puzzling chart.
The time should be rather accurate considering the eyewitnesses present at the time of the attack.
Why is Capricorn on the ascendent?
After thinking about it a while, perhaps it is the Capricorn/saturn symbolism of older persons?
The victim was not particularly young, especially for a surfer, he was 55 years old.
Checking the ephemeris for 1968, roughly his birth period, there was a pluto/jupiter conjunction at the end of virgo, possibly involving mars depending on his actual birth date, that is currently opposing the transiting Neptune in pisces.
Neptune in 1968 was near the end of scorpio, trine the transiting Neptune in pisces.
This would help narrow down the field of possible victims to just several million persons!

Sagittarius on the 12th, ruled by expansive Jupiter, in the shark's 5th. Hunting for food?
NN is also at the cusp of the 5th.
Moon is in gemini, a playful sign, by the 6th cusp, separating from the square to Saturn, ascendent ruler.
So both earth, air and fire are significators in the chart.
Jupiter (in an earth sign) separated from opposition to both mars and mercury, in watery scorpio.
Neptune by the 4th cusp of endings, gemini moon rules the 8th of death.

Despite the recent spate of shark attacks, they are still relatively rare occurrences even though humans should be easy prey compared to fast-moving fish and seals.

Capricorn rules teeth? But its earth. Water signs are abundant, as they usually seem to be in very bloody scenes, (my opinion, not proven) but may be written by someone. Hahaha.

If I'm reading this correctly, then Venus was in this chart is conjunct the 5th house cusp at 22 LE 56 and thus opposing the 11th house cusp of 22 AQ 56 or thereabouts.

Over in the "Degree Symbols" forum (under "Other Astrology") we mostly talk a lot about the Sabian Symbols which were developed first by Marc Edmund Jones and Elsie Wheeler in 1925 and later popularized by Dane Rudhyar and several others.

It is interesting to note that the symbol/phrase for 22AQ is Aquarius 23 (A big bear sitting down and waving all its paws). The symbol for 22LE is Leo 23 (A bareback rider).

I’ve read that sharks generally don’t eat us, preferring seal and other sea creatures. Many mistake us and after a bite, stop and the injured survive.

Oh my. I'm American but live in Sweden. I heard a little about these murders but assumed it was a shooting. As I read the Sabian symbols I thought, hold on this might have been stabbing. Either way, there are a combination of planets and symbols with a lot of potential for violence.

Sun @ Scorpio 22 (Hunters setting out for ducks). Hunter can be for sport or to kill for food or just to kill. Either way its predatory and stalking behavior. "Setting" can also be "sitting" and thus "sitting ducks" which connotes defenseless victims.

Venus @ Scorpio 27 (A military band on the march). This doesn't have to be a marching band/brass band but also a band of military men as it the film "a band of brothers." Not saying soldiers = violent man or men but it does suggest people/person trained in martial arts, defensive, and offensive fighting, combat, mortal combat, hand-to-hand combat. Interestingly, the Part of Fortune is Aquarius 18 (A man unmasked) which I guess is "fortunate" referring as it must to the identify of the assailant who was rather quickly identified. That symbol is trine Libra 18 which is "Two men placed under arrest." There was only the killer arrested so far. Makes me wonder if he had an accomplice or was motivated/helped by someone already under arrest or incarcerated.

Apparently, when seals were declared protected animals and their population grew, the sharks became attracted more and more to the area because there was a more abundant food supply.

There was a lot of work done on this case, with a couple of threads running simultaneously .
Obviously, we never reached the point of identifying the murderer(s) but it did seem to come across that the accused Bryan is very likely not guilty.

The charts are for 2:30pm, the time of the 911 call. Incident not long before, but I couldn’t find the accurate time. Ascendant close but not accurate.

Here is a deadly polar bear attack this year, sadly a mother and her young son died in the incident.

The polar bear was shot by a resident.

I used Placidus and a Whole house system. Thought both should be displayed, as it is the North.
