@FraterAC, thank you for the handy booktips, that's a great help. I'll find a copy of Mr Heindel's book and have a good go at learning this. You're right, the time is now. Always.

@Cosmiccradle, thank you for your information. Max Heindel's book has some form of table-houses I saw and I think I found another, as well as the ephemeris.
I regularly have states of being into liking things considered tedious (my happy Virgo first house). The flow of concentration and immersion is nice.

Thanks again both!

If and when the time is right I'd like to learn drawing charts without a computer. Just for the sake of being able to do so.

For those who can and did, does that hour or so of calculating and drawing, bring you into the chart at all?
I can imagine it being a calm and grounded way to build up a sence for the chart and what it offers.
YES---it was hard for me, at first, to take the chart out of the printer and then try to interpret anything. I really used that time drawing it up as a meditation kind of thing. Drawing the symbols into the houses, placing them into a stellium, gives you a certain understanding.

Drawing a funnel chart and placing the Moon in the lower hemisphere as a singleton, and drawing all the aspects to it from the outers at the top of the chart gives you a depth of understanding in that moment. Once you finish drawing it up you have a lot of information that came to you during that process.

The thing is, we need to engage the intuition and articulate that. For many of us it isn't instantaneous (although sometimes it is). It's not the intellectual function (alone) we need to be using IMO. Intellect is dimension reduction.
That's why I hate keywords, useful as they can be at times (for stimulating the intuition).
As my old pal Gurdjieff said, we need to understand these things by taste, by smell -- ie experientially.
When I was a full time Astrologer and teacher, in Venice Beach California, back in 70's and 80's, we had an Astrology student group that did Experiential Dramatic chart readings.

We had a troupe of astrology student 'actors' that each dressed up as the planets. And the 'native' would stand onstage , in the middle if 12 pie shaped segments---as each 'planet' came and took their place in the houses. So the native stands in the centre surrounded by their chart!

And the native could ask questions---The 'moon' might be standing right next to 'Mercury' played by someone chattering and poking at the timid moon. The native could yell out' why are you bothering him, what do you want? What are you trying to say? '

It was quite a wild experience to do those chart recreation experiences. Very funny bit also emotional and the students learned a lot. It was very revealing to see how Mars conjunct Venus looked compared to Mars conjunct Saturn, etc.

The story telling experience that we have as astrologers is very reminiscent of acting, where language and literature play such an important role; my mother taught English language, English literature and drama/theatre studies at further education college. Would have loved that!

Yes, exactly what I had in mind.
Reading your story is like an example of doing work with 'magical overtones'. Really stepping into that space demanding a degree of dedication, respect with more grounded insight as a result. It's a bit hard to put to words and I probably shouldn't exagarate one aspect of it.
I'm starting to think I might like the experience. Thanks for sharing!

Systemic work - like.

I've been on some stages performing in amateur plays, later directed a few and liked it a lot. From there I can relate and really love the idea.
